St. Joseph Cathedral School strives to provide a faith-filled and outstanding learning environment where each child is encouraged to put his/her faith into action, to develop skills for a successful life, and to achieve his/her personal best. In addition to the core subjects, students attend computer, music, and physical education classes. The school has air-conditioned classrooms, an outdoor classroom and garden, a state-of-the-art computer lab, a science lab, a library, a playground, and a gymnasium.
The curriculum incorporates the components of brain-compatible learning. The focus is on the key elements that enhance student learning such as public achievement, cooperative learning strategies, the multiple intelligences, and small communities called Tribes. Tribes is a process that develops caring, support, a sense of value-meaningful participation, and positive expectations.
The children annually present a Christmas and Spring concert. Students participate in city/state spelling bees, geography bees, mathematics and science contests, safety programs, and parent-supervised scouting and sporting programs which include volleyball and basketball. Students also go on local and out-of-town field trips. (Go to cathedralpackandtroop470.bravehost.com for more information on Cathedral Cub Scout Pack 470 and Boy Scout Troop 470.)
